Jane Atherton
"No matter how old you are or what your circumstances, learning is the pathway to opportunities you never even knew existed."

Jane’s father, who never graduated high school, instilled the importance of a post-secondary education in each of his seven children but didn’t have the means to pay for it. So having worked three part-time jobs while attending full-time post-secondary education, Jane understands the financial pressures that North Island College students face and doesn’t want them to go through the same financial hardship that she did. That education lead to a successful career in media in sales at The Globe and Mail, as a director at The Vancouver Sun and The Province and as publisher of 24hrs Vancouver Newspaper. A lifelong learner, Jane has attended Capilano College, UBC, SFU, BCIT, The Sauder School of Business and recently attained a Diploma in Interior Design. Jane now serves on the Board of Governors for North Island College, in addition to the Foundation Board, as well as on the Canadian Mental Health Association’s BC Division Board. Jane and her husband can be found cycling through the Comox Valley, snowshoeing up Mount Washington or walking the trails through Seal Bay Park.
