Sandra Harrison
Comox Valley Region
"Education adds to the quality of life, giving people a voice, opening doors to a better future, and promoting self-esteem and social competence. I believe passionately in the value and the right of everyone to access life long learning."
Born in Saskatchewan and raised in Alberta, Sandra earned a Master of Social Work and has particularly enjoyed interdisciplinary work in the fields of mental health, justice and corrections. She has served as a psychiatric social worker, correctional centre program director and later warden, ran probation for the province, and was the executive head of the Alberta Correctional Services administrative team in head office. Sandra later served as a vice president with the Alberta Mental Health Board and was appointed by Order in Council as the Alberta Mental Health Patient Advocate. Since retiring to the Comox Valley, Sandra served on the management team of ElderCollege at North Island College for 10 years, two of which were as the executive director. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her dog, travelling, and is an avid family genealogist.
