Legacy Match FAQs

Q: How do I join the Future 50 Legacy Match initiative?

A: It’s easy to join. Here’s how:

  • Get in touch. Let us know if you have already included the North Island College Foundation with a gift in your will, or named us as a beneficiary of a registered fund or life insurance policy.
  • Make plans to include a legacy gift in your estate plans.
  • Advising us if you’ve already provided support for North Island College Foundation through another giving vehicle, such as naming us as a beneficiary of a registered fund or life insurance policy.

Q: What is the match pool total? Is there a maximum per gift?

A: The match pool total is $50,000. The maximum for each confirmed gift is $1,000.

Q: Where did the matching funds come from?

A: The $50,000 in matching funds was gifted by generous community donors who care deeply about supporting students and encouraging others to consider a legacy gift to the North Island College Foundation.

Q: Where can I direct the $1,000 so it will have the most immediate impact?

A: You are welcome to direct the $1,000 to any area supported by the North Island College Foundation. Whether it’s emergency funds, financial bursaries for students in need, a program that inspires you, or student housing your generosity will make a real difference in helping students succeed.

Q: What is the deadline? How long does this last?

A: The campaign will run from November 2025 to April 30, 2026, or until the match pool runs out.

Q: Do I have to tell you the size of my legacy gift?

A: No, you do not have to share the amount or details of your gift. Simply letting us know that you have included the North Island College Foundation in your estate plan is enough to qualify and unlock $1,000 to support students.

Q: What type of planned gifts qualify for the Future 50 Legacy Match initiative?

A: Personal assets such as cash, securities, or real estate and charitable remainder trusts all qualify. You can also name North Island College Foundation as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy or registered accounts (like RRSPs/RRIFs). For more information, see Legacy Giving.

Q: I already included a planned gift to the North Island College Foundation in my will. Can I still unlock $1,000?

A: Yes, you can. If you notify us of your existing legacy gift during the match challenge period you will qualify to unlock $1,000 in immediate support for students.

Q: Can I change my mind later?

A: Yes, absolutely. A legacy gift is fully revocable, and you can update or change your plans at any time if your circumstances or wishes change.

A: Gifts in wills are the most common and often the most straightforward planned gifts. And it’s easy: to make a bequest to North Island College Foundation, your lawyer or notary simply prepares a new will or adds a codicil to an existing will.
